Trinity Church

Trinity Church, Boston:

This is a picture across the street from John Hancock Tower, taken of the reflection off the glass of the building. I found this shot amazing, not only because of how beautiful the church is, but because of the beauty of the reflection off the John Hancock Tower. I thought it such a gift that people get to see this every time they pass down this street.

Check out my other photo of the detail of the church here.

Trinity Church is located in the center of Boston's Back Bay on Copley Square. It was built after the Great Boston Fire of 1872 destroyed the old Trinity Church. Many artists submitted designs for the new church and Henry Hobson Richardson was commissioned to build it. It is based off the Romanesque architecture of southern France. Building materials are granite for strength and sandstone for trim.

For all you art lovers:
> This is the birthplace of the "Richardson Romanesque" style, characterized by a clay roof, polychromy, rough stone, heavy arches, and a massive tower. This style was soon adopted for a number of public buildings across the United States, and is the first American architectural style imitated in Europe and Canada.
